Powis Castle

A short drive from Berriew, imposing mediaeval Powis Castle rises dramatically above gardens that are justly world-renowned. Built by Welsh princes, it is now a National Trust property and contains one of the finest collections of paintings and furniture in Wales.

The beautiful collection of treasures from India displayed in the Clive Museum includes textiles, armour, bronzes, jade, ivory and a magnificent tent.

Light Railway

The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway weaves its way through the delightful Banwy Valley and gives you the chance to see deer and birds of prey, heron, kingfisher and even otters. It was originally used to transport sheep, cattle and locally grown timber from Llanfair to Welshpool Canalside through the town centre.

The line has been reclaimed over the years by a group of dedicated enthusiasts, the engines polished and carriages painted to gleaming perfection.
