Berriew
Village
After you’ve settled in at
the Lion Hotel, why not start to explore untouched Berriew, one
of the most charming villages on the Welsh borders?
|
 |
| |
"Old
black and white half-timbered buildings line the River Rhiew,
which winds its way through the village, with the Montgomeryshire
Canal
crossing above both Rhiew & roadway" |
| |
Past
winner of the ‘Best Kept Village in Wales’ award, Berriew
offers a retreat away from the pressures of everyday life, yet is
within easy reach of the main border towns and the Midlands motorway
network. The Snowdonia National Park and the coast are also only
an hour or so away. |

Berriew
- the village with its very own saint
The settlement’s origins go back into the mists of time. There
are even faint traces of ancient stone circles. We do know that
at the beginning of the 17th century, a prince of Powys gave the
township to Saint Beuno to establish a church, from where he travelled
throughout North Wales. |
